Management: Acute management involves fecal disimpaction using oral or rectal laxatives. Long-term definitive management and prevention rely on behavioral interventions, specifically routine toilet sitting for 5-10 minutes after meals (to leverage the physiological gastrocolic reflex), ensuring adequate fluid and fiber intake, and using positive reinforcement. Maintenance osmotic laxatives (e.g., PEG 3350) may also be continued for months.
