Management: Acute - for severe hyperkalemia, administer IV calcium gluconate to stabilize the myocardium, give insulin with glucose, consider inhaled beta-agonist, sodium bicarbonate if acidotic, potassium binders, or dialysis if refractory; stop potassium sources. Definitive/long-term - adjust diuretic therapy, avoid unnecessary potassium supplements, educate about high-potassium foods, and monitor labs regularly.
