Diagnosis: Total serum bilirubin (TSB) levels plotted on an age-specific nomogram (e.g., Bhutani).

Management: Acute: Maximize skin exposure to light. Avoid oily substances, lotions, or ointments (like Vaseline) on the skin, as they can absorb heat from the phototherapy lights and cause severe thermal burns, or act as a physical barrier blocking the light. Long-term: Monitor hydration, ensure frequent enteral feeding to promote bilirubin excretion via stool, and monitor for rebound hyperbilirubinemia after stopping therapy.
