• Lethargy, poor feeding, weak cry
• Increased oxygen consumption leading to hypoxia and hypoglycemia

Diagnosis:

• First-line: Axillary temperature measurement.
• Gold Standard: Continuous core (rectal or esophageal) temperature monitoring in critical settings.

Management:

• Acute: Remove the infant from the cold water immediately, dry thoroughly, and provide warmth via skin-to-skin contact or a radiant warmer.
• Long-term/Definitive: Maintain a Neutral Thermal Environment (NTE), educate parents on safe bathing practices, and monitor blood glucose levels.
